"The Walking dead are among us!  Spiritually speaking, of course.  They are enemies of God without conscience of the Holy one. Walking in darkness; oblivious to why they were created. These spiritually dead do what is right in their own eyes trying to please people and not the One in whose image they bear. I was among the walking dead and so were you.

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient”  Ephesians 2:1-2

How did this happen to the human race?  To understand this we must go to the very beginning.
"Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. “Genesis 1:26-27

Adam and Eve were created in the image of God and had a perfect relationship with God.  As they walked through the Garden of Eden, enjoying the fragrant aroma of the flowers, playing with the animals, and eating whatever they wanted, except the fruit from “The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil” These two children of God had total dependency and trust in their God.  Imagine being able to walk with God without feeling shame or guilt?    Adam and Eve truly lived in paradise.
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘you must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die. “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.  “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. ” Genesis 3:1-7
Because of their disobedience, God had to ban them from the Garden of Eden.  No more walks with God, no more shameless days basking in the sun and talking to the animals.    God had to protect them from their bad choice. He had to cast them out of the garden to prevent them from eating of “The Tree of Life”.  This was actually an act of grace and mercy from our Creator God.
“And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” Genesis 3:22

What would have happened if they were allowed to stay?   Would they have eaten from that tree?  We don’t know.  But God knew.  If Adam and Eve ate of the “Tree of Life” they would have remained in sin forever. The Walking Dead would have no hope.
Pretty scary thought.

The Walking Dead (spiritually) have a hope; Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,  made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved." Ephesians 2:4-5
If you are among the spiritual Walking Dead you can be made alive.  It is as easy as A,B,C
A-Acknowledge that you are a sinner separated from God
" for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23
B-Believe Jesus is God and that He died on the cross for your sin.
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ Died for us" Romans 5:8
C-Confess and Cry Out
"because, if you confess with your mouth  that Jesus is Lord and believe in your  heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

Is the Spirit calling you out of the Dead Zone?

Listen and Walk into the Newness of Life never to die(spiritually) again.

Are you already among the spiritually alive?
Speak the truth to the dead.
God will call them from darkness to light.

  1. I've never thought of Adam and Eve being banned from the Garden for their own good, but rather as punishment for their disobedience. Interesting. Thanks for that new perspective. I'm letting it tumble around my brain.
